We are responding to the great
needs being felt in SE Asia, and the appeal for the victims of the disaster
is going well. So far we have received approximately $40,000, even before
the contributions from Sunday services on the 2nd January have been received.
Thank you so much.
Donated funds are mainly being sent to Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia
– where we have local networks present who can administer the aid.
In the immediate term, funding will be provided for food, water, shelter
& medical relief.
49 Doctors are being sent to Sri Lanka, where there is 1 Missionary Doctor
currently in Colombo. A container of emergency food supplies is being
prepared for deployment to Sri Lanka, and construction teams are being
organized for Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
In the midst of us all coming
to terms with this terrible event and beginning our response to it –
it lifts my heart to be able to bring you some positive news, which is
indeed an answer to prayer.
Brother Mak’s wife, Sherina, was released from prison in China on
Christmas Day. She has been released on ‘probation bail’,
and while this does not mean that Sherina is clear of all charges, it
is indeed a very positive step – to God be the glory.
Her release is quite a miracle. The seriousness of the case is such that
some of the Chinese police were surprised that Beijing gave permission
for her release. They were convinced that she would be in jail for at
least 10 years.
Sherina asks that you should know that she felt the power of prayer behind
her from overseas brothers and sisters while in jail. She is well –
and through all her experiences has had a real, personal encounter with
Christ. She is now with Brother Mak at their home in China.
The authorities are continuing their investigation, which will put more
workers under threat including Brother Mak. Please continue to pray fervently
that the police will bring their investigations to a close, without harming
the wider work – and thank the Lord for this miracle.
Thank you for your continued prayers and I hope to give more good news
soon.
